“Alcohol drinking in teenagers is becoming a more and more serious topic in England”

Mikel Pinochet-Drug specialist

Alcohol in youngsters has increased in an unnatural and alarming way over the past years, here in England, mostly in the big cities.

Have you ever heard about the term binge drinking? Probably no. Binge drinking means large alcohol consumption in a very short period of time, in order to achieve a drunken sensation in a fast way. This term is know very well by the under age teenagers in England, apparently.

This problem has become more evident because nowadays all the liquor stores and some bars as well are allowing under 18 years old to buy and consume alcohol. This obviously because of money involved, of course, but still, this is an illegal practice.

What are the consequences of a drunken teenage society? Of course this involve a lot of health issues without letting apart the chances of death because of overdose. This also causes lower grades in school and problems with family and friends, which are often solved with the consumption of more alcohol, which lead to an alcoholic case. This last case happens more often of what you really think, and by the way, alcohol dependence is now a problem teenagers have to face.

Who can be blamed about these? Maybe the parents of these teens, or probably the liquor stores and the authorities. But the real problem here are the education systems, which are in charge of educate about alcohol and other drugs. Education systems in other countries such as France proofed to be very efficient, as teens in this country don’t present  a high level of alcohol problems.
